COMPANY HISTORY

Our Story: Innovation, Precision, and Commitment

KL Engineering, Inc. was founded on the principles of engineering excellence, precision manufacturing, and customer-focused solutions. From our beginnings as a small machine shop to becoming a trusted partner across multiple industries, we have continually evolved to meet the ever-changing demands of modern manufacturing. Our history is defined by innovation, problem-solving, and a relentless commitment to quality—driving us forward as we help our customers bring their ideas to life.
2009
Founded

Founded in Santa Clara, California, KL Engineering began as a home-based operation where Kevin handled design, simulation, and integration work. At the time, all machining, fabrication, and welding were outsourced while we focused on delivering fully assembled machines, fixtures, and other complete solutions to our customers.

2010
Moved

We moved into a 1,157 sq. ft. facility to expand our assembly and integration capabilities. During this time, we acquired CFD simulation software to enhance our design, simulation, and optimization of fluid flow and thermal systems—aligning with Kevin’s expertise from his MSME program. Additionally, we added a manual Bridgeport milling machine and a TIG welder to handle in-house repairs and modifications. However, we continued to outsource the majority of machining and welding work.

2013
Relocated

We relocated to a 1,920 sq. ft. facility, expanding our operational space. During this time, we acquired our first 3-axis CNC machine, primarily used for in-house repairs and modifications, while we continued to outsource most machining work.

2014
Expanded

We expanded our operations by opening a dedicated welding shop and leasing an additional 1,200 sq. ft. facility. This marked a significant shift toward vertical integration, allowing us to reduce lead times and address quality concerns associated with outsourced manufacturing. From this point forward, our capital equipment acquisitions were strategically focused on eliminating specific bottlenecks within our supply chain.

2015
Expanded

We expanded further by acquiring Flow Waterjet capabilities and leasing an additional 3,316 sq. ft. facility to support our growing operations.

2016
Relocated

We relocated to a 10,000 sq. ft. facility, significantly expanding our workspace. We acquired two new 3-axis CNC milling machines to enhance our in-house machining capabilities as part of our growth.

2018
PolyJet

We added a PolyJet 3D printer to expand our prototyping and rapid manufacturing capabilities.

2019
First 5-axis

We acquired our first 5-axis milling machine, enhancing our ability to produce complex, high-precision components. We also added a pneumatic tapping arm/system to streamline secondary tapping operations, such as those needed for waterjet-cut parts.

2020
12,000 sq

We expanded our operations by relocating to a 12,000 sq. ft. facility in Morgan Hill, California.

2021
First CNC lathe

We acquired our first CNC lathe, equipped with live tooling, a Y-axis, and a bar feeder, enabling us to run unattended production. We also added a helium leak detector to verify the integrity of vacuum and sanitary weldments, including vacuum chambers and related components.

2022
Second 5-axis

We acquired a second 5-axis milling machine and a palletized robotic cell to support unattended production. We also added our first Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) to enhance our quality control capabilities. We implemented the ProShop ERP system to streamline operations further, improving efficiency and tracking across all departments.

2023
Additional 3-axis CNC

We acquired two additional 3-axis CNC milling machines and a shared palletized robotic cell to support unattended production further.

2024
Third 5-axis

We acquired a third 5-axis milling machine (Matsuura) with an integrated palletized robotic cell, enabling unattended production. This high-precision, rigid machine can efficiently machine and hold tight tolerances in challenging materials.

2025
AS9100 and ISO 9001

We obtained both AS9100 and ISO 9001 certifications to further strengthen our commitment to maintaining the highest quality standards in all our manufacturing and engineering processes.
